Manual Software Tester

Role & Requirements

We are looking for a talented and proactive Software Tester to help us maintain and improve the quality of our next-gen, real-time 3D data visualisation application.

We use a variety of web technologies and our development process often has similarities with games or graphics applications.

Join our agile team and take ownership of manually testing our application.

  • You should have established experience of manual and exploratory testing of web-based applications.
  • You will collaborate closely with the team to understand the application, refine acceptance criteria for user journeys and develop test plans.
  • You will perform regular exploratory testing of new and existing features, identify problems and drive improvements to our user experience.
  • You will help expand best practices into our existing processes.
  • Part of your role will be helping to triage and prioritise issues.

We are also expanding our automated testing - so if you have relevant experience and/or a motivation for this, do tell us!
Tools such as Playwright may be relevant and there will be an opportunity to take ownership of this. We're a team that likes to learn new skills, and to allow people the time to grow.

We maintain an agile process and regular release cycle, while improving and formalising our test processes across the board. We'd like you to guide us and help to achieve that!

Work & Benefits

  • A full-time role of 35 hours per week with flexible working hours
  • A hybrid work routine where most people work from home on Wednesday and Friday
  • 34 holidays per year (including public holidays taken at any time)
  • Competitive salary based on experience and a future opportunity to share in the success of the company
  • Nest pension scheme with 5% company contributions
  • Latest MacBook Pro (with external 4k screen in the office)
  • Individual annual budget for professional development like conference trips or training courses
  • Time and support for preparing and presenting at local meet-ups
  • A visit to the head office in Munich
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Secure bike storage and on site showers
  • Fruit and snacks plus a stocked fridge for social drinks
  • A very nice top floor office on the corner of St Andrew Square in the city centre. We have great views across Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth, and only two minutes walk from the bus, trams and Waverley station.

The team has a diverse mix of skills with backgrounds in literature, medicine, maths, physics and computer science. As life-long learners we have a broad range of interests beyond our own specialisms.

We aim to foster an intellectually stimulating environment with an inclusive culture. We put emphasis on the craft of our work and sharing of knowledge within the team to ensure that we can all grow and improve together. We would love for you to contribute to that!

Interview Process

We start with a 45 minute introduction call to learn more about your experience, interests and background and share more details about our company and the role.

Our second stage is a homework exercise to create a test plan for an online product. When you return the homework to us, we'll schedule a 60 minute in person interview with you to talk through your work and explore more questions. This is also an opportunity to meet our team and see our office space.

The last stage is a 30 minute conversation and demo with our director, Tom Beddard. After this, we will be able to make a hiring decision.

We believe the interview process should be a positive experience regardless of the outcome.

If this interests you then email us and we can start a conversation.
